Google is an American company best known as a search engine. Although the company has made its name as a search engine, and the vast majority of its revenue comes from advertising, it has successfully established itself in a number of areas, including cloud computing, software and hardware.
The company's cloud unit is called Google Cloud, which includes components such as G Suite, the company's productivity applications such as Gmail and Google Drive.
The company was originally founded in 1996 by Sergey Brin and Larry Page while they were students at Stanford University in California. The company was officially launched in 1998, and then held an IPO in 2004 to take it public.
In 2015, the company announced its plans to reorganize its many interests as Alphabet.
Google is Alphabet's main subsidiary and operates as an umbrella for its Internet interests. Following the restructuring, Sundar Pichai became CEO of Google and Larry Page CEO of Alphabet.
Google launched its Google Career Certificates program in 2017, which offers certifications in data Analytics, UX Design and Project Management. All courses are taught remotely and can be completed in as little as six months. Google says the goal is to help people gain the qualifications needed to land a high-paying, high-growth job without a college degree. The search giant also considers the training courses equivalent to a four-year degree in related jobs.
Like the IT Support and Automation in Python certifications, these programs are designed and taught by Google employees working in the respective fields. Participants in these programs are prepared with essential skills they need to get a job. No prerequisites are needed to take the courses.
In addition, Google expanded its IT Certificate Employer Consortium, which includes more than 50 other employers besides Google, such as Hulu, Sprint and Walmart. There are also hundreds of internship opportunities offered at Google for those who complete Career Certificate programs, which can provide real on-the-job training.
The Google Career Certificate program builds on other Google programs to help people who do not have college degrees find careers in IT Support. According to Google, the Google IT Certificate program is very popular. It has helped many thousands of participants find new jobs and increase their income after successful completion of the course.
In 2017, Google launched its Grow with Google initiative, a series of technical training programs, professional certifications and tools to help people advance their IT careers and organizations. Google career certificates are an important part of this venture.
If you are interested in a new job in some of the fastest growing technology sectors, Google Career Certificates can provide you with some of the skills you need. Google's online learning programs now include user-experience design, project management and data analytics, and include an Android development certification course.

The company chose IT sectors that train well online, are in high demand, pay well and can be assessed for mastery. According to Google, there are more than 1 million job openings in these fields, with an average starting salary of €69,000.
Compared to traditional IT training, Google certifications have a strong added value. The main advantages of Google certifications are:
All Google Cloud certification exams can be taken remotely using Kryterion's online surveying service (OLP).

In 1995, two Computer Science students at Stanford University, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, began working on a computer program called BackRub; a search engine that used backlink analysis to track and capture data on the Internet. (The name "BackRub" is derived from the algorithms that calculate how many "backlinks" a Web page contains.)
BackRub's crown jewel was a data collection system known as PageRank, which determined a Web site's ranking by counting the number of pages, blending the relevance of those pages and linking back to the original Web page.
That technology led directly to the rise of Google, which Page and Bryn self-funded from their Stanford dorm room on a minimal budget. The pair used discounted computer parts and maxed out their credit cards before Andy Bechtolsheim, co-founder of Sun Microsystems, wrote a $100,000 check to "Google Inc." to get the company up and running in 1998, when Google was officially founded. Bechtolsheim reportedly wrote the check immediately after seeing an early demonstration of a Google product on the porch of a Stanford professor.
Soon more money was pouring in (Amazon founder Jeff Bezos was an early investor) and Google began its rise to the top of the Internet search engine pyramid. The search engine was officially rolled out in 1999, the same year Bryn and Page opened the first Google offices in Menlo Park, Ca. (the garage was owned by Susan Wojcicki, one of the first employees and now CEO of Google).
The company's new mission was simple and direct:
To organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful.
The name itself has an interesting background. The term "Google" is derived from the word "googol"; a term for the number one followed by 100 zeros. The name appears in the book "Mathematics and the Imagination," which was presumably read and admired by Page and Bryn. According to company history, both Google founders saw the term as a nice way to capture the arduous task of gathering information about everything on the Internet.
In 2002, Google really hit its stride with the introduction of AdWords, its pay-per-click third-party advertising platform. Once again, Yahoo had a chance to corner Google, when Page and Bryn approached the technology company asking for $3 billion in funding. Yahoo refused, Google found the money elsewhere, and Google AdWords has become a huge profit center for Google over the past 16 years.
Soon after, Google launched several other major corporate initiatives, such as Google AdSense (2003), a product that allowed companies to connect with global advertisers at the click of a button. Google's e-mail product, Gmail, was launched on April 1, 2004.
More launches followed:
In 2007, Google was also named the best company to work for in the U.S. by Fortune magazine.
Today, Google continues to pursue what it calls a relentless search for better answers as its core business philosophy.
The company also continues to build on its extensive range of products and services and in 2015 changed its corporate structure, with parent company Alphabet now leading Google and its extensive presence with offices in 50 countries around the world. Alphabet reported $110.9 billion in revenue in 2017, with net profit of $12.6 billion.
Larry Page and Sergey Brin didn't do too badly either. The Google co-founders now have a net worth of $54.4 billion and $53 billion, respectively. That's a long way from a dorm room at Stanford, and remains one of the most compelling business success stories in history - one that grows every day.
